2020 Audi RS6 – A wolf in sheep’s clothing

2020 Audi RS6 – A wolf in sheep’s clothing

In its fourth generation, the 2020 RS6 rolls to Audi enthusiasts. Available exclusively as a station wagon and equipped with 600 hp, it is the most powerful Avant ever. Everything is a little more extreme. The first impression: understatement. Very nice. You can’t immediately see what the Audi has to offer. With an A6 Avant, the customer certainly doesn’t think of this brutal engine performance at first glance. It stands massive on 22-inch cast aluminium wheels in a 5 V trapezoid design, shining anthracite black – 285/30 R22, equipped with an RS6 ceramic brake system. The exterior dimensions match these, the Audi is a total of eight centimetres wider than the “normal” A6.

2020 RS6 convincing interior

The interior welcomes the driver with high-quality Alcantara leather upholstery. The test car comes with a jet-grey/ocean-blue Audi exclusive design package at an extra cost of 7,380 euros. But if you decide on the 2020 RS6 and can afford it, you should not skimp on the extras. These make up the overall package. A Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound leaves nothing to be desired. Extra charge here: 6,070 Euro. The flattened multifunction sports steering wheel has high-quality shift paddles. The Audi RS sports seats in the front are equipped with seat heating and seat ventilation. In the interior, operation is primarily via touch display, a modern navigation system, the “virtual cockpit” and the DAB radio will delight you. Various optics packages are available ex works, the mid test car comes with the carbon package.

Audis RS6 assistance and power

Various assistance systems, such as the indulgence assistant, HD reversing camera, Surroundview Parking Assistant, pre-sense (rear-end collision warning) – everything your heart desires – are available (in some cases subject to an additional charge). The unladen weight of the vehicle is 2,150 kilograms. We take a seat, start the engine, the matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light come on, then the pithy engine sound resounds, supported by the 2020 RS6 sports exhaust system. A first test on the motorway shows that the RS6 completes the sprint from 0 to 100 in an insane 3.3 seconds. Fabulous. A real wolf in sheep’s clothing. The factory setting is 3.6 seconds. Top speed is 305 km/h (optional with the RS Dynamic Package Plus, the racer is regulated at 250 km/h ex works). Various suspension modes are available, in Comfort mode the Ingolstadt car drives quite humanely, in RS mode it is hard tuned. The power under the bonnet comes from a turbocharged V8 mild hybrid engine with four litres capacity and 600 hp and a maximum torque of 800 Nm between 2,050 and 4,500 rpm, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission (Tiptronic) and permanent four-wheel drive with self-locking centre differential.

New 2020 Audi RS6 price

Audi has achieved a super turning circle on the RS6 thanks to the rear axle steering (all-wheel steering). Very recommendable. In general: the understatement is what makes this car special. Everything can, nothing must. In the city with the family it cuts just as good a figure as on the race track. For the family father (or of course also the mother), who wants to own the family with the station wagon and who also wants to go full throttle on his own, this is the perfect vehicle. Of course, luxury has its price: the entry price is 117,500 Euros, the mid test car comes with various extras to 172,755 Euros.
